Gilbert and George

Gilbert and George are both contemporary artists who work together to create certain pieces of work. Gilbert Proesch and George Passmore were both born around the same time. Their work can be recognised through the use of many graphical colours and their work usually includes themselves being in it.

Both being quite the oddity, Gilbert and Georges work are usually large scaled and at most points include bright colours and grid like lines which make the paintings seem geometric and resemble windows. Many of their paintings including themselves also show nature, youths and their friends. Their paintings can be considered as quite symbolic as they use many Christian objects in them. Some paintings have created some controversy as they include things such as human excrements, nudity and urine. Gilbert and George played about with photography techniques and graphics to make the art.

Both Gilbert and George had conservative political views, rooting for Thatcher at most times.
